The Heart of the King of Pop

The “King of Pop”, Michael Jackson, known for the famous moonwalk, began singing at the age of 5 with his brothers and launched his solo career at the age of 13. Michael’s talent had an immense impact on the world, as he broke records, revolutionizing the music industry. A significant cultural figure who paved a way for others as an American singer, songwriter, entertainer and dancer. His best-selling album in history is Thriller, which sold an estimated 65 million copies worldwide.

The Album Thriller

As I’ve listened to his interviews and read articles, I’ve learned more about his heart and desire to be the change and see the world healed. He performed 45 out of 50 years of life on stage. In an interview with Oprah, he mentioned how he lost his childhood. Since most birthdays and holidays were spent on stage, Michael relived parts of his missed childhood as an adult. He was misunderstood and accused for his childlike perceptions and instincts, but he intrigued the world to tap into their innocent, full of wonder inner child. His charitable organization, Heal the World Foundation, once spread millions of dollars all over the planet to assist children and end poverty.

This legend spoke of his belief in Jesus Christ, and was moved by a deeper sense of compassion to help others.

“I will never stop helping and loving people the way Jesus said to. He said “continue to love. Always love. Remember children. Imitate the children.” Not childish, but childlike.” Michael Jackson

Michael saw something most adults miss. He spoke on how he saw children in their purest form and his heart for humanity was large. At the Super Bowl XXVII 1993 halftime show, Michael ended the marching band era by performing “We Are the World” and “Heal the World”. In his known gentle, soft-spoken voice he said,

“In their innocence, very young children know themselves to be light and love. If we will allow them, they can teach us to see ourselves the same way.”

He inspired all people in all countries to be the change they want to see.

“I’m starting with the man in the mirror. I’m asking him to change his ways. And no message could have been any clearer. If you wanna make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change!”

These were Michael’s words and he lived to consciously give back to others what he earned through music shows and tours.

Though we may not currently have the ability to impact on such a large scale as Michael once did, here’s what we can do:

  1. Take care of our being (internal, external)

  2. Discover what we are passionate about (dreams, ideas)

  3. Write down one specific idea plainly on paper (i.e. bring mental health awareness)

  4. Decide what reasonable action step can be taken starting today (i.e. start a blog and/or an online social platform)

  5. Take that step and plan accordingly future steps to develop this idea on a larger scale (i.e. create an Instagram account and YouTube channel where many experts will share their expertise on mental health)

When we go all in and truly believe in our mission, we become purposeful. Our life is full and we are creating a legacy which will inspire many to live life intentionally. Time is precious. Life is what we make it out to be every single day. Vision is internal. Taking steps is external. You can do anything you set your mind to.

I want to inspire all of us with this very message Michael dared to live out:

“In a world filled with hate, we must still dare to hope. In a world filled with anger, we must still dare to comfort. In a world filled with despair, we must still dare to dream. And in a world filled with distrust, we must still dare to believe.”
